Concerning the food inflation, the Finance Minister said that this is normally the time when prices of some food items become steep. However, this year a special effort has been made to contain the prices of important food items like that of onions at an early stage.

“We have sufficient food stock so even if because of the monsoon, there is any problem in certain areas, we need not worry,” said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley adding that Inflation is rather a cause of worry.

“As far as containing Inflation is concerned, restarting growth is a priority for the government. The Empowered Committee has suggested to keep certain things out insofar as the Goods and Services Tax is concerned but keeping too many things out defeats the very objective. I am discussing with the states and am hopeful that that we will come out with a consensus. States have agreed that they need to paid the GST compensation,” Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said.
