Govt school beats hazards of heavy schoolbags with tablets

Govt school beats hazards of heavy schoolbags with tablets

RAJKOT: Books are no more a burden for students of the government primary school in Sanganwa. The back-breaking school bags have become a thing of past and they simply walk into the classrooms with tablets.  The Sanganwa school has become first one run by the government to go bagless. All 70 students of class V to class VII have been given tablets that contain the entire syllabus.  Sanganwa, some 35 kms from here, had shot to fame after Shyam Benegal shot his award-winning ‘Manthan’ on White Revolution 28 years ago.  “The hazards of heavy school bags are well known. Moreover, I wanted to bring in the latest technology in education aids so that children of a government school too can compete with others,” principal Subhash Rathod told TOI.  The school has already carved a niche for itself with a Wi-Fi campus and smart classrooms with digital teaching aids provided by the principal Subhash Rathod, who donated the entire Rs 5 lakh insurance money received after the death of his only son in a road accident in 2011.  At present, students are being trained in using the tablets. The entire syllabus and study material is available in Gujarati using special software.  “Besides teaching, all the internal exams can be given on the tablets,” Rathod said.  Impressed with Rathod’s initiatives, city-based industrialist Jayanti Patoliya has decided to bear the entire expense of the tablets.
