சிதம்பரம் அரசு மருத்துவமனை அருகே அண்ணன் தம்பியான இரண்டு ரவுடிகளை 20 பேர் கொண்ட கும்பல் சரமாரியாக வெட்டித் தள்ளியும், நாட்டு வெடிகுண்டுகளை வீசியும் கொடூரமாகக் கொன்றது. பின்னர் இருவரின் தலைகளையும் அக்கும்பல் தனியாக வெட்டி எடுத்து வீசி எறிந்து விட்டுச் சென்ற செயல் சிதம்பரத்தில் பெரும் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. களஞ்சி மேடு என்ற பகுதியில் இந்த பயங்கர சம்பவம் நடந்துள்ளது. கொல்லப்பட்டவர்களின் பெயர்கள் ஆம்புலன்ஸ் குமார், ராஜேஷ் என்பதாகும். இவர்கள் இருவரும் அப்பகுதியில் ரவுடிகள். இருவரும் செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை அதிகாலையில் தங்களது வீட்டில் தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். அதிகாலையில் அங்கு வந்த 20 பேர் கொண்ட கும்பல் குமாரையும், ராஜேஷையும் சரமாரியாக அரிவாள்கள்களால் வெட்டினர். வீடுகளில் வெடிகுண்டுகளையும வீசினர். இவர்களைத் தடுக்க குமார், ராஜேஷ் சகோதரர்களின் உறவினர்களும், நண்பர்கள் சிலரும் முயன்றனர். அவர்களுக்கும் அரிவாள் வெட்டு விழுந்தது. குமாரையும், ராஜேஷையும் சுற்றி நின்று சரமாரியாக வெட்டித் தள்ளியதில் இருவரும் உடல் சிதைந்து உயிரிழந்தனர். அதற்குப் பிறகும் வெறி தணியாத அக்கும்பல் இருவரின் தலைகளையும் தனியே வெட்டி எடுத்தனர். பின்னர் உடல்களை அரசு மருத்துவமனை அருகே வீசி விட்டுப் போய் விட்டனர். இந்த கொடூரத் தாக்குதலில் குமார் தரப்பைச் சேர்ந்த 6 பேர் காயமடைந்தனர். அவர்களை ராஜா முத்தையா மருத்துவக் கல்லூரி மருத்துவமனையில் சேர்த்துள்ளனர். கொல்லப்பட்ட சகோதரர்களின் தங்கைக்கு சமீபத்தில்தான் திருமணம் நடந்தது. திருமணத்திற்குப் பிந்தைய நிகழ்ச்சிகளுக்காக உறவினர்கள் பலர் வீட்டுக்கு வந்திருந்தனர். இந்த சமயத்தில் இருவரையும் இக்கும்பல் சரமாரியாக வெட்டித் தள்ளி வீழ்த்தியுள்ளது. போலீஸ் என்று கூறி அக்கும்பல் வீட்டுக்குள் புகுந்துள்ளது. அவர்களைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்த உறவினர்கள் முயன்றபோது அவர்களை அரிவாள்களால் வெட்டியுள்ளனர். இதில்தான் 6 பேர் காயமடைந்தனர். வீ்ட்டுக்கு வெளியே சத்தம் கேட்டதைப் பார்த்து முதலில் ராஜேஷ் வந்துள்ளார். அவரை வளைத்துப் பிடித்து அக்கும்பல் சரமாரியாக வெட்டியது. அதைத் தொடர்ந்து அவர் மீது நாட்டு வெடிகுண்டையும் வீசியுள்ளனர். அதன் பிறகு வெளியே வந்த குமாரையும் அக்கும்பல் சரமாரியாக வெட்டிக் கொன்றது. கொல்லப்பட்ட குமார், ராஜேஷ் மீது பல வழக்குகள் உள்ளன. எல்லாமே கிரிமினல் வழக்குகள்தான். இருவரும் அப்பகுதியை அலற வைத்த பிரபலமான ரவுடிகள் ஆவர்.

When they were chased by some persons, they lobbed crude bombs at the house and at a hotel located in front of the hospital, injuring six of the relatives of the deceased and damaging a car and a van owned by Kumar, who was running an ambulance service and hiring out freezers for mortal remains. The injured were Muthamizhan, 21, of Pappireddipatti in Dharmapuri, a final- year agriculture student of Annamalai University; Vincent Paulraj, 22, an engineering student; Soundar, 27, of Arakkonam; Pandian, 27, of Cuddalore; Mani, 19, driver of Kumar; and Prabhakaran, 20, a third-year engineering student of Sankarapuram in Villupuram district. All of them are undergoing treatment at the Rajah Muthiah Medical College Hospital. The condition of Pandian was said to be serious. Pattabhi, Sivamani, Gajendran and Pathayiram have been detained for interrogation. The police also detected two unexploded devices on the scene and defused them. Superintendent of Police A. Radhika rushed to the spot with a contingent of police and arranged for taking the torsos and the heads to the Chidambaram government hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, the family members, friends and relatives of the victims gathered in front of the hospital and refused to take the bodies for funeral rites unless the attackers were brought to book.
