பூச்சி தாக்கியிருக்கலாம் என்ற சந்தேகத்தில் சுவை மிகுந்த இந்திய மாம்பழங்களை இங்கிலாந்தில் விற்பனை செயய் ஐரோப்பிய யூனியன் தடை விதித்துள்ளது. ஏற்கனவே கடைகளுக்கு வந்து சேர்ந்துள்ள கிட்டத்தடட 1.6 கோடி மாம்பழங்களுக்கு யூனியன் தடை விதித்துள்ளதாக தகவல்கள் கூறுகின்றன. இதனால் இந்திய மாம்பழங்களை சுவைக்கும் வாய்ப்பை இங்கிலாந்தைச் சேர்நதவர்கள் தற்காலிகமாக இழக்கும் நிலை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்தியாவிலிருந்து இறக்குமதி செயய்ப்பட்ட மாம்பழங்களில் பூச்சி தாக்கியிருக்கலாம் என்று அச்சம் எழுந்துள்ளதாம். இந்தி பூச்சிகளால் இங்கிலாந்து உருளைக் கிழங்கு மற்றும் வெள்ளரிச் செடிகளுக்கு ஆபத்து வரலாம் என்று ஐரோப்பிய யூனியன் சந்தேகிக்கிறதாம். இந்தியாவிலிருந்து ஆண்டுக்கு 60 லட்சம் பவுண்டு வரையிலான மாம்பழங்களை இங்கிலாந்து இறக்குமதி செய்கிறது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. இங்கிலாந்தில் இந்திய மாம்பழங்களுக்குத் தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதற்கு இந்திய வியாபாரிகளும், விவசாயிகளும் கடும் அதிருப்தி தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். இது முட்டாள்தனமான முடிவு என்று அவர்கள் வர்ணித்துள்ளனர்.

But mangos imported from India are set to disappear from our shelves amid fears that shipments contain a pest that could destroy British tomato and cucumber crops. The news has infuriated Asian shopkeepers and restaurant owners, who stand to lose thousands of pounds due to a European-wide ban on the fruit that begins on Thursday. About 16million mangos from India are imported by the UK in a market worth nearly £6million a year.
