பஞ்சாபில் ஒரு இளம்பெண்ணை கௌரவ கொலை செய்த குடும்பத்தினர், அவரது சடலத்தை எரிக்க முயன்றப்போது, போலீசார் பாதி எரிந்த சடலத்தை மீட்ட சம்பவம் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. 

மௌர் குராத் கிராமத்தை சேர்ந்த இளம்பெண் ஹர்ஜிண்டர் கவுர், இவர் ஜக்சிர் சிங் என்னும் நபரை காதலித்து வந்தார். இவர்களது காதலுக்கு வீட்டில் எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டதால், இவர்கள் இருவரும் வீட்டிலிருந்து வெளியேற முயற்சித்த நிலையில் பெண்ணின் குடும்பத்தினர் அவரை கொடூரமாக கொலை செய்தனர். தனது காதலி குறித்து எந்த தகவலும் தெரியாத நிலையில், ஜக்சிர் சிங் போலீசில் புகார் அளித்தார். இதை தொடர்ந்து பெண்ணின் வீட்டில் விசாரணை மேற்கொண்ட போலீசாருக்கு அவர்கள் அப்பெண்ணை கொலை செய்ததும், அவரது சடலத்தை யாருக்கும் தெரியாமல் எரித்துவிட சென்றுள்ளதும் தெரியவந்தது. உடனடியாக இளம்பெண்ணின் சடலத்தை மீட்க சென்ற போலீசாரால், பாதி எரிந்த நிலையில் இருந்த சடலத்தை மட்டுமே விசாரணைக்காக மீட்கமுடிந்தது. 

இவ்வழக்கு தொடர்பாக பெண்ணின் குடும்பத்தினர் 5 பேரை கைது செய்துள்ள போலீசார் அவர்களிடம் விசாரணை மேற்கொண்டு வருகின்றனர்.

In yet another instance of honour killing, a girl was allegedly killed by her family members who then attempted to hastily cremate the body in a village in Bathinda on Thursday night. Soon after being informed of the girl’s death by her lover Jagsir Singh, police rushed to the Rambagh cremation fire where they doused the burning pyre to recover trace of evidence which could lead them to her killers. According to police sources, Jagsir had expressed suspicion based on the fact that victim Harjinder Kaur’s body was being burnt after sunset, which is against custom. Reportedly, he registered a case of honour killing against her family members after learning of the death through locals in Mour Khurad village. Station House Officer of Thana Mod police station informed Kulwinder Singh informed Bhaskar that five of her family members have been arrested and are being interrogated.
